St. Nicholas | |
St. Nicholas lived in the 4th century and was a bishop who later became a Christian saint. His feast day is December 6, most likely the date of his death. Nicholas is most remembered for his kindness and miracles. He is also known for defending the falsely accused and often prevented them from being executed. He also prayed for sailors and other travelers. When his parents died, Nicholas received his inheritance but it is said that he had given it away to charity. Among Christians, he is sometimes referred to as the "Wonderworker", for he was a man of several acts of merriment. Among Orthodox Christians, Nicholas is remembered with more worship and less merriment. |
